Camp Yavneh

Established in 1944 as Hebrew College's fullest expression of its commitment to informal Jewish education, Camp Yavneh is the College's Hebrew-speaking overnight camp. Set on 65 acres of campground in Northwood, N.H., Yavneh combines traditional summer camp activities—swimming, field sports, arts and crafts, music, drama, dance and nature—with a strong Judaic component that creates an atmosphere in which all aspects of camp life reflect Jewish values.

Daily Hebrew language and Jewish studies classes are taught by qualified Jewish educators; regular programming involves many aspects of Jewish history, culture and ritual; and each morning begins with prayers in either a traditional or egalitarian minyan. Exposure to both minyanim impresses campers with the similarities among the different ways Jews approach prayer and teaches them to value klal Yisrael. At Yavneh, all Jews are accepted as one people. All campers celebrate Shabbat and observe kashrut. Shabbat at camp is joyous and festive, from the Shabbat meals, services and z'mirot to the beautiful havdalah service on Saturday night.

Scholarships are offered solely on the basis of financial need. Yavneh remains strongly committed to giving every child the opportunity to attend camp.

Camp Yavneh offers two other programs for families and teens. Family Camp at Yavneh is an extended summer weekend filled with activities for all ages, stimulating Jewish learning, wonderful food and a ruach-filled Shabbat. Teens who have completed their junior or senior year may participate in Na'aleh, a six-week summer study and touring program in Israel, based in Jerusalem.
