Hebrew College is proud to announce the fulfillment of the Rose Bronstein Fellowship. In just two years, 163 donors raised $100,000 to honor
Rose Bronstein P'41, BJEd'45, MHL'70- who served Hebrew College as a Jewish educator for more than 50 years-creating a lasting legacy of Rose Bronstein Fellows at Hebrew College. The first Bronstein Fellowship has been awarded to Sarra Spierer, a student in the College's Cantor-Educator program since fall 2004, for her commitment to the field of Jewish education.
In spring 2003, a group of Rose's friends and former students approached Hebrew College to discuss a fitting tribute on the occasion of her 80th birthday. Inspired by her lifelong love affair with Jewish education, they deemed appropriate the idea of an endowed fellowship to benefit promising Jewish educators.
"Rose never expected such an honor. Seeing her joy as this endeavor reached fruition makes our success that much more special," says
Aaron Landau (formerly Irwin Aaron Lande)
P'62, Dpl'65, BJEd'67, one of the leaders of the effort. "We look forward to seeing the legacy really come to life through the recipients of the fellowship, who will be fortunate enough to meet Rose and, perhaps, be as inspired by her as her many students have been over the years."
Once Rose learned of the plan in her honor, she worked alongside friends and former students to raise funds for the initiative and shares their sense of accomplishment on many levels. "The outpouring of support, the beautiful letters I received and the phone calls from students from 30 or more years ago simply overwhelmed me," she says. "I cannot begin to adequately thank every person who played a role in making this happen."
