Congressman Barney Frank, a distinguished American legislator and staunch supporter of Israel, Jewish causes and institutions, will be the speaker at this year's 78th Commencement Exercises on June 1. Representing the Massachusetts 4th District since 1981, Congressman Frank previously served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and as an assistant to the mayor of Boston, and also taught at several Boston area universities. A longtime friend of Hebrew College, he will be among four prominent Jewish leaders to receive an honorary degree.

Other honorees are Irwin Chafetz, former Hebrew College Board Vice Chair, active philanthropist and Director of The Interface Group-Massachusetts, Inc.; Edith Everett, former investment and financial adviser, philanthropist and Trustee Emerita at City College of New York; and Dr. Mark Podwal, a professor of dermatology at New York University and prolific artist, author and illustrator.

Graduates of the College's degree and certificate programs will be honored along with 85 students in the Prozdor high school program and nearly 300 in Me'ah. Seven students will receive a Master of Arts in Jewish Studies and six will receive a Master of Jewish Education. Two certificates will be awarded in Jewish Family Education and one certificate each in Cantorial Arts, Jewish Day School Education and Jewish Early Childhood Education.
