It's past midnight, your paper is due at 9 a.m., and you need another source. Do you panic? No—simply log onto the Gann Library's website at
hebrewcollege.edu/library, click "databases," and you'll find a world of books, journals and other resources at your fingertips.
The Gann Library consistently reviews and expands its electronic resources to meet the needs of the Hebrew College community, and recently added "e-brary," a database containing over 20,000 full-text academic titles, that can be searched and read on your computer. The system also provides a "personal bookshelf" for your selections and prepares citations for your bibliography.
Serials Solutions Journal/Database Portal, another useful resource, indicates whether the journal you want is in hard copy and/or online at the Gann Library. Like e-brary, when the listing is online, Serials Solutions provides a direct link to it within seconds.
Some of the library's databases are also entertaining. The Naxos Online Music Library and the Dartmouth Jewish Sound Archive offer a variety of Jewish music—including classical, symphonic, ballet and show tunes—that you can play through your computer.
"These systems are wonderful for our patrons at home," explains Suzan Hirsch, Electronic Services and Interlibrary Loan Librarian. "They provide an online gateway to the library's extraordinary electronic resources."
