After two years of Me'ah in Manhattan, graduates are demanding more. In response, Hebrew College is designing a second Me'ah Graduate Institute (MGI), set to launch in Metro New York with eight classes enrolling 120 students this fall.
MGI classes will be held at Me'ah sites in Manhattan, Long Island and New Jersey to accommodate the approximately 50 existing graduates and over 160 expected to graduate this spring. Taught by Me'ah and MGI instructors, the courses include new offerings, such as classical Hebrew and, for the first time, a thematic, two-semester class on Maimonides and the Jews of Spain, followed by a study tour to Spain.
Enrollment for MGI classes in New York begins post-Passover. With this expansion, Moshe Margolin, New York regional director, predicts that New York's total Me'ah enrollment will reach 600 next fall-compared to Boston's 900.
Dr. Avi Bernstein-Nahar, Dean of Educational Planning and Development, who has played an instrumental role in developing classes for MGI in New York, says, "The journey starts with Me'ah, but it is a lifelong journey. Our goal with MGI is to support that journey, in Boston, New York, or wherever it is happening."
