Always on the lookout for excellent teachers, Prozdor has discovered a new resourceright on campus at the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College. This fall, three rabbinical studentsJosh Breindel, James Kahn and Alyson Solomonare teaching core courses at the College's highly successful secondary school, and it's hard to imagine a better fit.
For starters, the rabbinical students get relevant experience that puts their studies into practice. "It's an important opportunity to be on the other side of the table, to give over some of what I've been learning," says first-year rabbinical student Alyson Solomon, who teaches
Core Mitzvot in Jewish Life to Prozdor seventh graders. "It's also a reality check to explore the questions our youth have about Judaism relative to their own lives."
Meanwhile, Prozdor gets instructors who can serve as what Prozdor Director Margie Berkowitz calls "attractive role models."
First-year rabbinical student James Kahn, for instance, teaches the ninth grade core class in Jewish law as he strives to incorporate its teachings into his own life. "These students are now figuring out how to be Jewish and American," he observes. "I'm helping guide them through that process by exposing them to knowledge of what Jewish law asks of them."
