At the forefront of developing and delivering online Jewish study courses, Hebrew College offers a Master of Arts in Jewish Studies (MAJS) from the comfort of your home, anywhere in the world. The program, which can be completed in two to three years, maintains the same high standards of academic excellence that have characterized Hebrew College since its founding in 1921.
Students participate in online courses, independent study and two one-week summer seminars at Hebrew College's campus near Boston, Massachusetts. In addition, students may transfer up to six credits earned in other approved university or online programs, with permission of a faculty adviser.
This is a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful, interactive study and academic inquiry into Jewish sources and tradition. Hebrew College's emphasis on small classes, the availability of individual advisers and mentors as well as direct access to faculty foster a caring and dynamic online learning community.
The distance-learning program takes advantage of a wide range of communication and collaboration tools, both high- and low-tech. The World Wide Web, email, discussion forums, desktop audio conferencing, shared online whiteboards, telephone, fax and even the postal service are creatively harnessed to open new worlds for those who wish to engage in advanced Jewish studies.
The program begins with a two-week online orientation, designed to prepare students for online study. Throughout the program, technical assistance and support are available to participants. The Hebrew College online help desk, reachable via email and phone, has been providing prompt and friendly assistance to online students since 1995.
In their last semester, students participate in the graduate research seminar, in which they complete their master's paper and share their research and learning experiences. Prior to commencement, they join with graduating students in the campus-based MAJS program to present their research to the Hebrew College community.
