Mitchell B. Kirschner, a real estate attorney and community leader in Boca Raton, Fla., was named Board Chair for Hebrew CollegeSouth, succeeding Marianne Bobick. A 25-year Florida resident, prominent businessperson and activist in local politics, Kirschner will guide the newest phase of Hebrew College's expanding programs in the South Florida region.
"This is a compelling opportunity that I couldn't pass up," says Kirschner. "I'm looking forward to having Hebrew College be a lifelong passion." Kirschner is a general partner at the law firm of Hodgson Russ, LLP, and earned his JD from the John Marshall Law School and a BA from Brooklyn College. He has served on the boards of numerous Jewish and community institutions and is director of the Unicorn Foundation, which offers outreach and counseling for emotionally troubled individuals. A member of Temple B'nai Torah, Kirschner lives with his wife, Elene, in Boca Raton.
Kirschner believes there is a "compelling need for an institution such as Hebrew College to provide Jews and non-Jews with a wonderful center of learning, culture and humanism."
In Summer 2003, construction will begin on the 14,000-square-foot building that will house Hebrew College's Florida programs. Located on the campus of Florida Atlantic University, the structure will also be home to FAU's Hillel Jewish Student Center and will be available for occupancy in December 2004, according to President David Gordis.
