From Salamone Rossi's Renaissance madrigals to "Ba Mir Bistu Sheyn," Jewish choral music will resound in Italy's historic synagogues and magnificent churches during the Zamir Chorale of Boston's heritage mission from June 29 to July 13. As part of a Catholic-Jewish interfaith initiative, Sacred Bridges, co-sponsored by the Archdiocese of Boston, the Chorale will perform in Milan, Mantua, Venice, Florence, Siena and Rome.
Traveling with the Chorale will be a group of over 20 tourists accompanied by visiting scholar Professor Benjamin Ravid of Brandeis University. With a mission to build Jewish-Christian relations, Zamir will also be reviving Hebrew art music in the place where it began 400 years ago. "Through our music, people divided by language, culture, class and faith are discovering the deeper spiritual realities and cherished moral commitments that bind us in a common humanity," says Zamir's director, Joshua Jacobson.
